The only way to change the world is to change the story
[WEB BANNER PHOTO] A mandala ritual with seeds in the middle of the circle for a new permaculture garden for Batug, Dulag, Leyte, a disaster affected community affected by Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda. This was taken 1 month after the devastating typhoon, the strongest storm in global record destroyed almost all the homes, crops, trees, and sources of livelihood in this community. Here on this day, we had a retelling of the story and a thanksgiving ritual to honour the blessing of life and survival from the most unforgettable day of this community's history.
THE POWER OF STORYTELLING
I'd like to think that the sun symbolises the fire that the first peoples of the earth encircled around with as they told each other about the dreams that came to them the night before and the dreams that they shape their destinies with. We orbited around this fire as a chaotic yet organised human system learning as we go along, stumbling and growing along the way.
Mandala Earth Story uses story circles and ritual spaces to bring people, a cause, a plan, an action to remember the centre of all things. In the hole in the middle, we place our highest selves, our dreams, and our aspirations guiding us in a meaning making process that remembers our wholeness and eventually our holiness.
In every circle that we co-create, we bear witness to each other's journey and in the process come into a weaving of collective wisdom and action.
The root word of his/herstory is STORY. Anything that has shaped us today came from what kind and how these stories were created. Knowing this empowers us to remember that we have the power to change then what could possibly come that we do not wish should happen. As the world faces the Great Turning, we are in a potent time to gather again around that giant star, a symbol of birthright to re dis-cover (or to reveal what is covered) our highest nature - co-creativity to give birth to a possible reality we wish to become in the world now and in the future.
